Burnside Gorge is an up-and-coming neighbourhood in beautiful Victoria, combining an industrial vibe with the heritage charm and natural scenery that is the city’s signature. Filled with breweries, historical sites, and diverse selection of fantastic restaurants, it’s a great area to explore while staying with us here at Days Inn Victoria Uptown. Keep reading to learn more about three things awaiting you to discover in Burnside Gorge!
The Victoria Ale Trail
Craft beer is a booming industry in British Columbia and, in Victoria, Burnside Gorge is the epicentre. More than five different breweries and brewpubs are located within close walking distance from each other and comprising an integral portion of the Victoria Ale Trail. Start your journey with Phillips Brewing & Malting Company, which is the only craft brewery in Canada that malts their own barley. They also have their own line of non-alcoholic craft sodas. Vancouver Island Brewing is another must-visit — it is one of the oldest craft breweries in Victoria.
Point Ellice House
One of the most beautiful and unique museums in the area? The Point Ellice House. Looking out at the gorgeous Gorge Waterway, the historic home was built between 1861 and 1862 in an Italianate Villa-style design that was popular during the 19th century. Along with an extensive collection of late Victorian and early Edwardian antiques, visitors can also enjoy the beautifully landscaped gardens which boast the largest surviving natural and heritage landscape along Victoria Harbour and the waterway.
Amazing Eateries
Take a break from exploring and be sure to stop in at one of the many restaurants around Burnside Gorge. There’s truly something to suit every taste. Looking for waterfront dining? Head to Glo Restaurant + Lounge. Something a little funkier? Wheelies Motorcycles & Cafe is an old auto shop-turned-cafe that features a locally inspired menu alongside a workshop for vintage choppers. And, for a beloved local mainstay, check out Wing’s Restaurant — one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Victoria.
